Ty leads the firm’s energy practice, focused on campaign strategy, paid communications, and policy advocacy.
He advises investor-owned utilities, Fortune 100 companies, and advocacy coalitions. Ty runs campaigns and public affairs efforts that shape public opinion in heavily regulated industries, from rate cases and siting fights to wildfire liability and data center buildout.
Before joining the firm, Ty directed the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s independent expenditure program, running an $80 million paid communications campaign across 31 congressional districts. He previously served as campaign director for Senate Majority PAC, helping run a $75 million paid communications effort in key Senate races. During passage of the Affordable Care Act, he ran the Democratic War Room. He’s also held senior roles on presidential and Senate campaigns and in both the executive and legislative branches, including as top communications aide to several U.S. senators.
Ty holds an M.A. in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Montana. He serves on the board of Alexandria’s Duncan Library, and when he’s not reading, you’ll find him at CrossFit.
